National Prize for Design 2009

Announcing of the results and awarding of prizes – National Prize for Design 2009 took place on the 5th June 2009 in Bratislava.

Competition called National Prize for Design is organized by the Slovak Design Centre and Ministry of Culture SR with the help of Ministry of Industry SR and Ministry of Education SR every second year.
Aim of the competition is to attract attention to the Slovak quality design and to prove that strategy based on design helps companies to win out on the Slovak market as well as abroad. Competition is open also for students of design so that they have the opportunity to compare their works in broader scale, to get the contacts with praxes and vice versa, to offer their innovative concepts to production.

To the ninth year of the competition authors submitted one hundred and forty seven works, 25 to the category of product design, 33 to the category of communication design, 79 to the category of student product design and 10 to the category of student communication design.
In comparison with the previous year the number of students´ works increased significantly.

Results of the competition were decided by jury whose twelve members worked under the lead of the chairman, graphic design Pavel Rozložník. Other members were industrial designers Anton Bendis, Rastislav Čeleďa, Pavel Masopust and Tibor Uhrín; graphic designers Peter Hajdin, Stanislav Stankoci and Mária Rojková; representatives of professional institutions Vladimír Jakubec ( NARMSP), Adriena Pekárová (SCD), Judit Várhelyi, Hungary, Lenka Žižková, Czech Republic.
Following the thorough discussions and voting in numerous rounds, the jury decided to award two National Prizes for Design 2009.
Most successful students´ works were awarded the Prize of the Minister of Education SR in the categories of product and communication designs.
Except the main prizes the jury awarded also other 10 works irrespective of category or place.
On the bases of the NPD professional jury’s suggestion the respective ministers awarded the Special Prize of the Minister of Culture SR to a personality of design for his/her significant life activities and the Special Prize of the Minister of Industry to a producer for systematic utilization of design in company’s strategy.

All awarded works as well as other works of the NPD 2009 competition were presented at the exhibition in Gallery Cvernovka in Bratislava from the 6th – to the 28th June 2009.
All winning works and other participants of the competition are presented and described in the catalogue in two languages.
